Board of Trustees Announces Dr. Ann Marie Murray As Presidential Nominee

The Herkimer County Community College Board of Trustees, at its May 15 meeting, selected Dr. Ann Marie Murray of Binghamton as its nominee for the third president of the College. The Board will forward its nomination to the State University of New York Chancellor's Office for confirmation and appointment by the SUNY Board of Trustees.

Murray is vice president for academic affairs at Broome Community College, a position she has held since August 2005. She holds several degrees from the University at Albany including a Ph.D., certificate of advanced study, master of science and master of arts. She earned a bachelor of arts from Mount Saint Mary College.

"Dr. Murray's strong leadership skills and extensive background in higher education in academic, operational and administrative positions will be an asset to Herkimer County Community College," said Donald J. Snyder, chairman of the HCCC Board of Trustees. "We are very pleased to nominate her as the third president of HCCC."

In addition to her current position, Dr. Murray served as dean of business and engineering & industrial technologies at Hudson Valley Community College from 2004-2005, and associate dean of academic services from 2001-2005. She was also department chair of mathematics, science and engineering science from 1998-2001.

Dr. Murray's teaching experience includes serving as a full-time faculty member at Hudson Valley Community College, achieving the rank of full professor. She received the prestigious SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1997.

Dr. Murray said "I am very thankful to the Board of Trustees and the search committee for their confidence in me. I look forward to working with the students, faculty and staff of Herkimer County Community College as we embrace the future of the institution. I will work toward establishing a positive, trusting relationship with the local community," she added.

A total of 53 candidates applied for the position which was narrowed to six by a screening committee. Three finalists were selected by the Board of Trustees and public forums were conducted. Following confirmation of her appointment by the SUNY Board of Trustees, Dr. Murray plans to begin her employment at HCCC on August 11, 2008.
