Generals lose to Brookhaven in OT in national championship game

Herkimer v brookhaven

Dryden, N.Y. -  Herkimer fell to Brookhaven in overtime 2-1 in the 2017 NJCAA DIII women's national championship game.  Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY) made the only and final goal of the season for Herkimer on an assist from Hailey Couchman (Baldwinsville, NY) in the 87th minute of play.  Blumenstock's goal towards the end of regulation would force an eventual overtime to decide the 2017 national champion.

The script was there for the taking for both teams in the final game of the season.  Weather and injuries were no longer a factor.  The winner of this game was going to be national champion.  But Brookhaven had other plans for Herkimer in overtime as they took advantage of a break away in which they would score the game winning goal and end Herkimer's season and national championship run.

Rachel Todd (McGraw, NY) made 11 big saves on the day against a team that kept challenging her and her defense.

Herkimer snapped a 10 game winning streak with the loss to the eventual national champs - Brookhaven.  The Generals finished 18-2 (5-0 conf.) on the year.
