Three Herkimer Soccer Players Named to the United Soccer Coaches all-America Team
Herkimer, NY – Sophomores Luke Murphy (Glasgow, Scotland), Roandre Wollery (Hartford, Conn) and freshman Marius Svendsen (Drammew) have been named to the United Soccer Coaches all-American team. Murphy was named to the first team and Wollery and Svendsen were named to the second.
Murphy the Generals top goal scorer led the nation in goals with 35. He was a first team all-Region selection and named Region III player of the year. Murphy was also selected as the MVP of the Region III championship scoring a hat trick against Onondaga CC. “Murph has an unbelievable work ethic. Said Coach Pepe Aragon. His hard work in training has paid off for him this season. Murph scored some great goals in very tight big time games. He has great size and speed. Murph is a true goal scorer.
Goalkeeper Wollery was second in the country with a 0.67 goals against average. He was named to the all Mountain Valley Conference and Region III teams. Wollery recorded 11 shutouts in 22 games. “Roandre is an unbelievable keeper who came up with big time saves in multiple big time games. He dominates his penalty area and is very good with his feet. All the hard work that Roandre put in with GK coach Dida Bailey has paid off.” Said Coach Aragon
Svendsen was the Generals top back. The 6’2 defender was a big reason the Generals had 11 shutouts and only conceded 12 goals in 22 games. He was named to the all Mountain Valley Conference and Region III teams. “Marius is a great center back with great size and speed. Said Aragon. He is very good in the air and is very comfortable with the ball at his feet.”
“All three players are truly deserving of this award. Said Aragon. To be named as one of the top 24 players in the entire country is remarkable. All three guys are not only great players, but they are class acts off of the field as well. More importantly all three are great in the classroom.”
The Generals finished the season with a 19-2-1 record winning the Mountain Valley Conference and Region III championship. Herkimer advanced to their 29th national tournament appearance finishing third.
