Math Placement
Students will be placed into the appropriate gateway math course based on the following criteria:
- A high school average of 79% or higher
- 70% or higher on a Math Regents exam
- Math SAT score of 500 or higher
- ACT score of 20 or higher
- Transferring in (C or higher) a college-level math class
Meeting any of the above criteria makes the student eligible for MA123, MA124, MA125, MA127, or MA130. Otherwise, a student will be registered for MA 095 in their first semester.
Students will be placed into the appropriate upper-level math course of MA 132 or higher based on the following criteria:
- 80% or higher on ANY Math Regents exam, then the student is eligible to take MA 132 College Algebra & Trig
- 80% or higher on the Algebra II/Trigonometry Regents exam, then the student is eligible to take MA 141 Precalculus
- High school Precalculus course with an 80% or higher, then the student is eligible to take MA 245 Calculus I
