Senior Adult Audit

Herkimer College offers New York State residents aged 60 and older the opportunity to audit courses offered at the College tuition-free (some non-tuition fees and/or course materials costs may apply).  Senior adults may participate in courses without being required to complete assignments or exams. 

Please note that Senior Adult Audit requests can only be approved if there is space available in the class and currently, Senior Adult Audit is only being offered for in-person/on-campus courses (not for online courses). 

Senior adults who audit college courses are not awarded academic credit for those courses, and no academic transcript is provided to them.  The Senior Adult Audit allows eligible state residents to access courses that are of interest to them and to engage in a scholarly, diverse, and multi-generational learning environment without the pressure of tuition costs, homework deadlines, or graded evaluations.  Senior adults can take part in college courses for the pure joy and personal enrichment of learning.

Application Procedure:

  • Applicants complete Part I of the Senior Adult Audit Request Form, indicating the semester, course title, and course section (CRN) they would like to audit:

    Course information:
    Code / Course Registration Number (CRN) / and Title

    Example: EN 123-90 / 40844 / Major English Writers

  • Applicants provide complete contact information, sign, and date the Request Form and submit it to the College Registrar’s Office along with valid ID/proof of age. 
  • The College Registrar will notify applicants two days before the start of the class if the Senior Adult Audit request has been approved.
  • Request forms can be delivered or mailed to the Registrar's Office: Robert McLaughlin College Center, Room 216, 100 Reservoir Road, Herkimer, NY 13350; or emailed to registrar@herkimer.edu.
