Point of Pride #39 – Humanities and Social Science Division
The Humanities and Social Science Division offers students opportunities to prepare for careers or additional study in fields such as education, fine arts, human services and criminal justice. Many of our programs in this division are hands-on allowing students to get a feel for exactly what the profession will require of them.
For example, students in the Early Childhood program are required to complete a practicum, with many students choosing the Herkimer College Children’s Center for their workplace. Through this experience, students interact with young children in a professional, supportive environment, and gain valuable first-hand experience. Another examples is the Forensic Investigations program which allows students to set up and investigate mock crime scenes.
The Humanities and Social Science division prepares many students for transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Liberal arts and general studies programs are popular programs for those students who know they will transfer to a four-year college or university and also for students who may be unsure of what they want to major in. Other programs offered in the Humanities and Social Sciences division include childhood education, communication arts: new media, music industry, digital filmmaking, radio-television broadcasting, cybersecurity, crime & intelligence analysis and forensic investigations.
The Humanities and Social Science Division includes 30 faculty and staff who work tirelessly to help their students become successful graduates.
