What do you find most rewarding about your job and why?
I love when students “find” themselves and their life’s path while at Herkimer -- they are so inspiring!
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, whom would you want to meet?
I recently became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution after tracing my paternal family tree back to the pre-revolutionary period. My “patriot ancestor”, Jacob Wiltse, is someone I’d like to meet. His life story frames the period of American history I find most interesting and includes his children and grandchildren’s stories as they pushed westward to find land for homesteading and the opportunity it afforded. There’s more genealogy research to come and to be able to hear Jacob’s stories first hand? Wow!
How do you define success?
Success isn’t just about what you accomplish. It’s also about what you inspire others to do. That sums up how I feel about my life as well as my job. Making connections between people and ideas is important. And, I’ve always felt my job is more than just an occupation. It’s about developing human potential.
What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?
Curling, Flat Coat Retriever rescue, reading, travel, seeing Broadway shows, trying new recipes, perennial gardening, and planning “Magical Mystery Trips” for family and friends
What do you enjoy most about working at Herkimer College?
The people who work at the college have a genuine interest in our students and their educational journey, which is what drew me to the college initially and that’s also what has kept me here for almost 30 years. The staff of the Academic Support Center are an especially caring group of professionals, each with unique life experiences, personal qualities and professional expertise. Together we make a great team!
What is something that most people wouldn’t know about you?
I married my high school sweetheart!
