The General’s Cupboard

The General’s Cupboard stocks a variety of FREE food and personal care items. The General's Cupboard exists to assist all Herkimer College students. A valid student ID is required.

The General’s Cupboard is located in CA 103. Open hours are are: Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. and Fridays from 12 to 2 p.m. when the College is open during the academic year. Appointments are available by contacting Paula Fallon via Teams or by email at fallonpa@herkimer.edu.

In emergency situations in which there is an immediate need for food, please contact Campus Safety at 315-866-0300, ext. 8616.

Do you know about SNAP?

If you are having trouble affording the food you need to feed yourself or your family, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) may be able to help. SNAP provides monthly benefits on an EBT card that you can use to buy food at grocery stores. Low-income students between the ages of 18 and 49 who are enrolled at least half-time in higher education may be eligible.

Would you like to help? 

The General's Cupboard welcomes donations to help keep the shelves stocked. Donations can be left in collection boxes located at the General's Cupboard (CA 103) or in the Office of Marketing and Communications (RMCC 255), Center for Student Leadership & Involvement (RMCC 220), Athletics Office (PE 104), Academic Support Center (LB 104) and Dean of Students Office (CA 264). Below is a list of most needed items.

  • Cereal & breakfast bars
  • Healthy snacks (granola bars, nuts)
  • Peanut Butter & Jelly
  • Canned Fruits & Vegetables
  • Canned meats (tuna, chicken)
  • Bottled water
  • Personal care products such as soap, shampoo, razors, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.
  • Toilet paper and tissues
  • Can openers

Monetary donations are accepted by mail or phone call to the HCC Foundation Office. Checks should be made payable to the HCC Foundation, noting The General's Cupboard in the memo line, and can be mailed to: HCC Foundation, Herkimer College, 100 Reservoir Rd, Herkimer, NY 13350.
