Crime & Intelligence Analysis A.A.S.
Develop research and analytical skills to be used in crime analysis or intelligence for criminal justice agencies. Explore crime analysis and intelligence theories. Build your analytical, writing, and team management skills. And collect and analyze data to forecast criminal profiles to solve crimes and predict future crimes. The Crime & Intelligence Analysis program prepares you with the knowledge, skills, and critical thinking to succeed in a variety of public and private careers. Potential employers include any local, state, or federal law enforcement or intelligence agency.
Criminal Justice A.A.S.
The Criminal Justice A.A.S. program prepares students for careers in law enforcement, criminal investigation, probation, parole, and similar fields. A three-credit internship experience is designed to integrate the theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom with the practical knowledge of working in the field. This program is offered on campus and online.
Criminal Justice A.S.
The Criminal Justice A.S. program prepares students for transfer into a criminal justice program or related social science discipline at a four-year college or university. Building on a solid foundation of required courses in law, criminology, criminal justice, and private security, our curriculum offers elective coursework in areas such as policing, juvenile justice, corrections, and security. Students will also complete a solid general education curriculum necessary for transfer to the baccalaureate level. This program is offered on campus and online.
Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics A.S.
Join the first line of defense in network protection. Cybersecurity is a growing career field, and there’s an ever-increasing need for skilled professionals. Career opportunities are available in numerous industries including banking and finance, transportation, petrochemical industry, law enforcement and defense communications, government, and homeland security. The Cybersecurity program at Herkimer College is certified by the Information Assurance Courseware Evaluation (IACE) Program. This certification recognizes that Herkimer College’s courses have met all elements of the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) National Training Standards for Information Systems Security Professionals and Senior Systems Managers.
Emergency Management Certificate
This online, one-year certificate program provides contemporary knowledge and expertise to lead, manage, or support disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery in emergency management. The program is designed for those seeking industry-specific course work essential to support whole community emergency management programs. Participants will learn practical skills from experienced emergency managers. Students can transfer up to 18 credits from this program toward the online Bachelor of Science in Emergency Services degree offered by Embry-Riddle’s Worldwide Campus.
Forensic Investigations A.A.S.
The Forensic Investigations program prepares students for entry into public law enforcement and/or private investigative fields. Students will gain a fundamental understanding of processing a crime scene. Graduates may choose to enter the workforce directly or transfer to a four-year college or university to continue their education.
Legal Studies A.A.S.
Herkimer College’s Legal Studies program prepares students for positions in law offices, banks, real estate firms, brokerage houses, federal, state and local government agencies, and other institutions requiring employees with legal training. Responsibilities include assisting an attorney in legal research, the preparation of documents for hearings or trial, and other support services.
Paralegal Studies Certificate
Prepare to work as a paralegal/legal assistant. The program covers the core legal content areas including torts, property/real estate law, contracts, wills/trusts/estates, legal research and writing, civil procedure and litigation, criminal law, family law, and legal ethics. Graduates will be prepared to apply the ethical rules and aspirations governing the legal profession to specific factual scenarios, conduct legal research on defined issues, prepare drafts of legal memoranda, and select pleadings pertinent to various legal content areas.
Pre-Employment Police Basic Training
In partnership with the Little Falls Police Department, Herkimer College offers Phase I Pre-Employment Police Basic Training. This first phase of pre-employment training is open to civilians and sworn police officers as an alternative to the conventional manner of conducting the Basic Course for Police Officers. The program prepares students for a career as a police officer prior to being hired by a law enforcement agency. Although the program does not guarantee admission into a police department, every standard required by a full-time basic police academy applies, including academics, attendance, and physical fitness. Graduates of this program have been very successful securing employment as police officers prior to or immediately following graduation.
