Track & Field coming into form at Cardinal Classic

ROCHESTER, NY – In their final opportunity to qualify for regionals this coming Friday (5/1), the Herkimer Generals Track & Field team did admirably Saturday (4/25) at the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic. The men finished eighth overall and the women finished 12^th.

Helping the men event wise was the 3000-meter steeplechase, 4x100-meter relay, 100-meter dash, long jump, high jump and triple jump. The Generals captured Top 5 finishes in each, competing in a total of 17 different events.

Sophomore Sam Morrett (Cohoes, NY) finished third in the steeplechase, posting a 10:13.22.

The 4x100 team finished in third and fourth place, posting a 45.30 and 47.47 from two separate relays. The ‘A’ team consisted of Devlen Williams (Syracuse, NY), Jack Minasi (Newport, NY), Tyrique Rideau (Westchester County, NY) and Chris Simmons (Utica, NY). The ‘B’ team consisted of Jhamel Cohen (Brooklyn, NY), Carlos Almonte (Brooklyn, NY), Seibeon Domasin (Morrisville, VT) and Hizyme Potter (Syracuse, NY).

Simmons came in fifth in the 100-meter dash, running an 11.53.

Williams placed fifth in the long jump (6.61m) and sixth in the high jump (1.80m).

Minasi placed sixth in the long jump (6.56m), second in the high jump (1.95m) and fourth in the triple jump (13.39m).

As for the women, they had two Top 10 finishes in the 4x100-meter relay and javelin throw. Luiasha Charles (Middletown, NY), Katrina Murray (Rochester, NY), Alexis Nowack (Ilion, NY) and Lindsay Therrien (Johnstown, NY) posted a 59.04 which was good enough for fifth place.

Then Maxine Grogan (Herkimer, NY) threw the javelin 25.95 meters, giving the freshman sixth place.

Mentioned previously, the Herkimer Generals will travel to Delhi, NY this Friday (5/1) and Saturday (5/2) for the Region III Championship. In 2014, Herkimer captured 17 All-Region honors. The team will look to do the same, if not more in the two-day meet at SUNY Delhi. Herkimer has already competed there once this season, and will look to build on that solid performance. Competition for each day is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
