Van der Slik propels Generals past Owls

HERKIMER, NY – After being held scoreless on Saturday, sophomore Kevin Van der Slik made sure the same occurrence didn’t happen Sunday (8/31) at Wehrum Stadium, scoring the only goal of the game to help the Generals defeat Prince George 1-0 for their first win of the season.

Van der Slik’s first career goal came assisted from Moulid Somow (Utica, NY) in the 24^th minute. It was Somow’s 18^th career assist in 22 games, righting the ship after the team lost to Bergen 2-0 in the opener.

Starting in goal again was Morrice Baker (Bridgeport, CT). The sophomore recorded his first shutout as a General, saving three shots in 90 minutes against the Owls.

Herkimer will play their third regular season game on the road Thursday (9/3), facing Onondaga Community College 1-1. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on David W. Murphy Field.
