Van der Slik propels Generals past Owls

HERKIMER, NY – After being held scoreless on Saturday, sophomore Kevin Van der Slik made sure the same occurrence didn’t happen Sunday (8/31) at Wehrum Stadium, scoring the only goal of the game to help the Generals defeat Prince George 1-0 for their first win of the season.

Van der Slik’s first career goal came assisted from Moulid Somow (Utica, NY) in the 24th minute. It was Somow’s 18th career assist in 22 games, righting the ship after the team lost to Bergen 2-0 in the opener.

Starting in goal again was Morrice Baker (Bridgeport, CT). The sophomore recorded his first shutout as a General, saving three shots in 90 minutes against the Owls.

Herkimer will play their third regular season game on the road Thursday (9/3), facing Onondaga Community College 1-1. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on David W. Murphy Field.
