Herkimer County Community College Announces 48th Annual Commencement
Herkimer County Community College’s 48th Commencement will be held Friday, May 20 at 5 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Physical Education Building. There are 543 candidates for degrees and certificates this year.
Board of Trustees Chairwoman Isabella Crandall will preside over the ceremony. The National Anthem will be sung by Megan Breit ’16 of Frankfort, Haley Dugan ‘16 of West Winfield and Emily Schumske of Herkimer, accompanied by adjunct music instructor Ann Kocuba. The vocal trio will also perform “For Good,” composed by Stephen Schwartz.
The invocation and benediction will be given by The Reverend Victor McKusick ’16, Interim Pastor at Whitesboro Presbyterian Church. Herkimer County Legislature Chairman Bernard Peplinski Sr., Assemblyman Marc Butler, Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney, and Student Government Association President Rhiannon Steele ’15 and ‘16 will deliver greetings.
The student address, “We are Seeds,” will be given by graduating senior Teddi Cromling of Ilion, NY, a Liberal Arts & Sciences: Social Science major. Additionally, Timothy McKenzie, a graduating Liberal Arts & Sciences: General Studies major from Central Islip, NY, will present “What a Time to be Alive.”
Degrees will be conferred by President Cathleen C. McColgin, with assistance from Provost Michael Oriolo and Dean of Students Matthew Hawes.
Admission to the ceremony is by ticket only. Non-ticket holders may view the ceremony on a large screen in the Sarkus-Busch Theater, located in the Robert McLaughlin College Center. The ceremony will be broadcast live on HCTV, Time Warner Cable Channel 97-3 in Southern Herkimer County. There will also be a live webcast at www.herkimer.edu.
A reception for the graduates and their guests will be held in the Robert McLaughlin College Center immediately following the ceremony.
