Generals get first win over #10 Tigers on Saturday

HERKIMER, NY – Needing only one goal Saturday (8/27) against Fashion Institute of Technology in the second half from Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY), the Herkimer Generals women’s soccer team won their first regular season game under the guidance of Acting Head Coach Jason Palkovic 1-0 at Wehrum Stadium.
Herkimer (1-0, 0-0) saw Blumenstock score her first goal of the season on an assist from Danielle Charland (Chateaugay, NY) in the 76th minute. Charland led Blumenstock perfectly inside the 18 where the freshman scored right-to-left against Tigers goalie Stephanie Roberts.
The Generals had two more chances in the final half to build on their 1-0 lead, but Grace Johnson (Tully, NY) and Blumenstock were unable to connect. Johnson missed left on a cross from Alexys Bolton (Middleville, NY) and Blumenstock missed right.
Starting in goal for Herkimer was Honesti Crochran (Wingdale, NY). The freshman saved two shots in 60 minutes of play.
Up next in the Coliseum Kickoff Classic for Herkimer is Nassau Community College. The Generals will host the Lions on Sunday (8/28) at 10 a.m.
