Herkimer Generals Race for National Title
Canandaigua, NY-- The Herkimer Generals cross-country team traveled to Finger Lakes Community College Saturday, November 12th to compete in the National Championship race. The Women’s team competed in the 3.1 mile race against 29 different colleges and finished 5th out of 13 complete teams. Individually freshman Chyanna Bernier (Ilion, NY) and freshman Tiffany Amentler (Elmira, NY) earned positions at the top. Amentler finished 13th overall completing her race in 21:17 with a 6:51 pace, earning her third team All-American recognition. Bernier finished 2nd overall with a time of 20:12 at a 6:30 pace earning her first team All-American recognition. Bernier also earned the prestigious recognition as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Player of the Year award for the NJCAA DIII Northeast division.
The men’s cross-country team competed in the 5 mile race against 35 different colleges and finished 16th out of 25 completed teams. The top two Herkimer finishers were freshman Kyle Holmes (Spencer, NY) coming in at 30:51 and a 6:13 pace which earned him 29th place overall; and sophomore Brandon Rawson (Ilion, NY) coming in 31:18 at a 6:18 pace which earned him 42nd place overall.
