Herkimer Men's Soccer to hold Pete McAvoy Night

Herkimer, NY – The #1 nationally ranked Herkimer men’s soccer team will be holding their annual Pete McAvoy night this Wednesday, October 3 where they will take on Mohawk Valley CC.

Pete McAvoy was a Herkimer College soccer athlete who won two national championships in 2012 and 2013. He captained the 2013 championship team and scored the game winning goals in the national quarter-final, national semi-final and national championship game. He was named the 2013 National Player of the Year.  Sadly, McAvoy passed away on Saturday, April 19th 2014 from an undiagnosed heart condition.

“We continue to keep Pete’s memory alive,” said Coach Pepe Aragon. “He was a tremendous person, student-athlete, teammate and captain. Pete will forever be a part of our program.”

Additionally, the players will be wearing black jerseys with pink lettering and numbers in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. Frankfort AYSO youth soccer players will be walking out both teams for starting line-ups and the National Anthem and will also be playing at halftime.

Kick-off is at 7:00 p.m. at Wehrum Stadium. Admission is free.
