# 1 Herkimer wins on Pete McAvoy Night

Herkimer, NY - On a night when the Herkimer Men's Soccer team honored their former captain, the Generals came through with a big win.

Fighting off a spirited effort for their rivals from Mohawk Valley Community College, the # 1 ranked Herkimer Generals beat the Hawks by a score of 3-0 at Wehrum Stadium on Pete McAvoy night on Wednesday. With the win, the Generals lifted their perfect record to 13-0 on the season and clinched the regular season Mountain Valley Conference Championship with a final record of 5-0 in league play.

Tarik Moussaoui (Oslo, Norway) scored the first of his two goals on the evening with 2:10 remaining in the first half on a pass from Chris Capaldo (Smithtown, NY) to give the Generals a 1-0 halftime lead. Moussaoui added his second goal of the game with 36:03 remaining with an assist from Andre Blanco (Cape Coral, FL). Shemar Blair (Brampton, Ontario) scored his team high 15th goal of the season with 20:14 left in the game on an assist from Marius Svendsen (Drammew, Norway) to seal the victory. Ashley Lowe (Toronto, Ontario) and Julio Gomes (Bedview, South Africa) split time in goal to give Herkimer its 10th shutout in 13 games. 

Next up for the #1 Generals is a huge matchup of nationally ranked teams as they travel to Batavia, NY on Saturday afternoon Oct 6th to face the # 4 ranked defending National Champions from Genesee Community College. The Cougars come into the game with a record of 10-2 on the year. Game time for Saturday is 3:00 PM
