Herkimer Women end regular season with road win at Finger Lakes
Canandaigua, NY - The Herkimer Generals were on the road again for the third time in a row as they took on Finger Lakes at Canandaigua Academy on Wednesday night. It didn’t take the Generals long to start the scoring as Ashley Capron (Burnt Hills, NY) put them ahead courtesy of a Kristen Purcell (Sauquoit, NY) pass in the 5th minute. Herkimer registered 9 shots on goal in the first half but the score remained 1-0 heading into the halftime.
After halftime though it was more of the same but the Generals found their finishing touch as Capron doubled the lead off another Purcell pass in the 53rd minute. Two minutes later Maddie Renshaw (Herkimer, NY) made it 3-0 after Alexis Romeyn (St. Johnsville, NY) found her in the middle for the goal. Within a 5 minute span beginning in the 62nd minute, the combination of Haley Harrington (Stockbridge, NY) & Sarah George (Dolgeville, NY) would each score and assist one another to make it 5-0. That is how it would finish as the Generals finish the regular season at 10-3-1. Rachel Todd (McGraw, NY) saw 72 minutes of action and Jordan Zaccagnino (Cherry Valley, NY) saw 18 minutes as they combined for the shutout. Sarah Russo (Cherry Valley, NY), Amber Douglas (Fort Plain, NY), Annie Thorp (Hilton, NY), & Rachael Gross (Dolgeville, NY) all played well defensively to help preserve the shutout.
