The Robert H. Wood Great Artists Series will present The Modernistics on Friday, October 18 at 7 p.m. in Herkimer College’s Sarkus-Busch Theater. The performance is open to the public and free of charge.

The Modernistics are the acclaimed singing and tap-dancing team of Ted and Pamela Powers, with virtuoso jazz musicians Peter H. Bloom on flute, Mark Leighton on guitar, and Dave Zox on double-bass. The renowned quintet will provide an exhilarating tour of the Great American Songbook with music by Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, Dorothy Fields, Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, and other master tunesmiths. Crowd-pleasing songs and tap dance numbers will include Sunny Side of the Street, Paper Moon, Bye-Bye Blackbird, Georgia on My Mind, and It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing.

The Modernistics have performed at venues across the Northeast, including the Ocean Park Music Festival, the Medallion Opera House, The Tillotson Center, the Middletown Concert Association, Concord City Auditorium, Colby College, the Chelmsford Center for the Arts, and other locations. The members of the Modernistics have taught and performed extensively in the United States and abroad.

The Robert H. Wood Great Artists Series is a result of a generous endowment made to the Herkimer County College Foundation by the late Robert H. Wood, a long-time resident of Ilion, NY.
