Purcell named Region III Female Athlete of the Week

Herkimer NY – Herkimer College women’s soccer player Kristen Purcell was named NJCAA Region III Female Athlete of the Week for week of August 19-25.

Purcell, a sophomore from Sauquoit, NY, led the Generals to a pair of wins in the 2019 Coliseum Club Kickoff Classic, which was held at Wehrum Stadium on August 24 and 25. In Saturday’s season opening 5-2 win over Nassau Community College (NY), Purcell tallied four goals, including a natural hat trick. On Sunday, she notched the game-winning goal in a 3-1 win over Holyoke Community College (MA) in a rematch of a game played last year in the 2018 NJCAA Division III National Tournament.

The five goals scored in the first two games places Purcell at the top of the goals-scored rankings for Division III after one week. She will next take the field for the Generals, who are 2-0 and ranked eighth in the NJCAA Division III Pre-Season Poll, on Thursday night in Syracuse against Onondaga Community College.
