Softball gets road sweep at Finger Lakes

Canandaigua, NY - After having ten days off since their season opener, the #2 Herkimer Generals showed no signs of rust on Tuesday, traveling to Canandaigua, NY and earning the road sweep against the Finger Lakes Lakers by a combined score of 23-1. The Generals took Game 1 by a score of 10-1 and followed that up with a 13-0 5 inning win in Game 2. With the wins, Herkimer improves to 4-0 on the young season.

The Generals scored in 5 out of their 6 innings in the Game 1 win. Alexis Garrison (Clifton Park, NY) started the Herkimer scoring with an RBI double in the first and a solo Home Run in the second inning. Micheala Ponticello (Gloversville, NY) added 3 hits, which included a 2-run triple in the 4th inning. Aubrey Ketcham (Otisville, NY) also rang up 3 hits and Emily Beames (South Glens Falls, NY) came off the bench and added 2 hits and a RBI.

The offensive output was more than enough for starting pitcher Madison Ihnat (Boca Raton, FL), who went the full 6 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 5 while earned her second win of the season.

Hannah DeRock (Hunt, NY) took the ball in Game 2 for the Generals and also earned her second win of the young season. DeRock went 5 innings while only giving up 2 hits and also striking out 5 FLCC batters. The Generals bats took over in the bottom of the 4th, taking a close game and turning into a rout with an 11 run inning. Garrison and Beames once again had 2 hits apiece while Kourtney Ketcham (Otisville, NY) and Alexis Van Patten (Niskayuna, NY) also added 2 hits. Van Patten also was a factor on the bases, scoring 3 times and stealing 3 bases.

Next up for the second ranked Generals is a 4 game series with their long time rivals from Mohawk Valley Community College. The first two games are scheduled for Saturday afternoon, April 3rd at 2:00 PM at Mohawk Valley. The Generals will then host the Hawks for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 6th at 3:00 PM at Herkimer High School.
