DSC3956 1 v3

Watertown NY- Herkimer Woman's Soccer traveled to Jefferson CC Wednesday on the back of a tough loss against Genesee CC. The Cannoneers scored the first goal of the game, but Herkimer struck back just before half time when Mackenzie Magnusson (Vernon, NY) weaved through 3 defenders then pounded home her 2 goal of the season. The game tying goal was assisted by the Region assist leader, Hailey Traut (Frankfort, NY)

In the second half, Mackenzie Magnusson won the ball back after a goal kick and assisted Hailey Traut for her 9th goal of the season. Kate Blough(Elka Park, NY)finished the scoring with her 1st goal of her college career, once again assisted by Hailey Traut.

Just as the Generals were getting control of the game Jefferson won a penalty kick and Kurstin Gay (Herkimer, NY )came up huge double save, first hitting the initial shot into the air as she dived to her right, then controlling the ball with her feet while she was laying on the ground. Gay and Isabella Smith (Newport, NY) stifled 9 shots on goal.

Head Coach Damon Neish said after the game:

"It was great to come here and get a good result. Injuries are piling up so it was great to see the likes of Taya Yacobucci and Kenzie Magnusson control the midfield and step up. It was also nice to see Faith Stewart getting more playing time than previous weeks and having two or three big chances to score. In a couple more weeks; and with a few more practices under her belt, hopefully she will be scoring with those opportunities. Jefferson was tough, they battled us but I'm Proud to come away with the win".

The Generals are back in action of Wednesday (10/12) when they host Finger Lakes CC for a 3:30 Start.
