Somow and Collins-Brown named to NJCAA All-American Team

Herkimer Generals midfielders Ali Somow (Utica, NY) and Ikiel Collins-Brown (Monroe, NY) were recently named to the NJCAA, Division III All-American team. The duo led the Generals to the National Tournament the past two seasons, finishing as the National Runner-up this season.

Somow finished the season as the national leader in assists with 17 and added 4 goals on the season. Somow scored the game winner against Mohawk Valley CC, to win the Region 3, District B Championship to move on to the National Tournament. Collins-Brown scored 7 goals on the season while adding 6 assists. In addition, Somow and Collins-Brown have been named All-Region team and were named to the Mountain Valley Conference team. 

Head Coach Pepe Aragon said “Ikiel and Ali were crucial to our team’s success this season. Ikiel is an athletic, skillful central midfielder who has a great work ethic. He’s been a mainstay in our lineup for the last few seasons and will move on after this semester.” Aragon went on to say, “Ali is an explosive winger with tremendous speed and skills. In my 24 years, he’s in my top five best outside midfielders that I have coached. Ali’s a great student and will be a Division I player when he graduated next December.” Somow has now been named to the NJCAA All-American Team two straight season’s and will return to lead the Generals in the fall of 2022.
