Generals Advance to Region III Semi-Finals

Herkimer NY-The Herkimer Generals women’s basketball team hosted Genesse CC Cougars in the Region III quarterfinal. The Generals came out on fire, scoring 25 points in the first quarter. Ajla Sedjic (Utica, NY) hit three big three pointers in the quarter to give Herkimer the early momentum. Genesee clawed back in the second quarter scoring 24 points to bring the half time score to 39-32. Genesee once again outscored the Generals in the third quarter to cut the lead to 48-44. Herkimer regrouped in the fourth quarter scoring 24 points, to knock off the Cougars 70-56.  

The Generals were led Sedjic, Kapri Bradshaw (Uniondale, NY), Dinah Harris (Niagara Falls, NY) and Jenna Faulkner (Otego, NY). Sedjic was the leading scorer on the night with 21 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Bradshaw had 18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 4 assist and 2 blocks. Harris had 8 points and pulled down 18 rebounds, Faulkner had 11 points, 11 rebounds and added 7 blocks.

After the game, Head Coach Matt Hazzard said “We came out quicker than we have all year and it proved we needed every point. Genesse never stopped fighting and I’m proud that we kept never folded. Dinah was the x-factor for us tonight, she really stepped up when we needed her. We’re excited to take on Onondaga CC, but with tonight’s effort, we feel good about our chances!”

The Generals will move on to the Region III semi-final, traveling to Onondaga on Saturday (2/26) to take on the Lazers. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 PM.
