Generals Explode For 68 Runs to Sweep Mohawk Valley and Jamestown

Utica NY/Herkimer NY- The Herkimer Generals softball team traveled to take on the Mohawk Valley Hawks on Friday and returned home to take on Jamestown Jayhawks on Saturday. The Generals offense exploded for 68 runs in the 4 games while only allowing 8 runs during the stretch.

The offense was led by Hailey Hunter (Deerfield, NY), Marissa Correa (Schenectady, NY), Maiya Reinhart (Batavia, NY) and Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, NY). Hunter went 3-6 on the weekend with 4 runs scored, 7 RBI’s and added her 3rd homerun of the season. Correa finished the weekend with three hits and 9 RBI’s for the Generals. Reinhart and Ponticello went a combined 11-16 on Sunday with 10 RBI’s with 10 runs scored. Reinhart added her 3rd homerun of the season while also hitting a double off the top of the wall.

Herkimer pitchers Madison Puppalo (Adams, MA), Madison Prior (East Greenbush, NY), Elora Wilmot (Cazenovia, NY) and Jordan Cole (Ronkonkoma, NY) picked up wins for the Generals. Puppalo went 4 innings and allowed 1 hit and 7 strikeouts. Prior went 7 innings, racking up 7 strikeouts and only surrendering 1 hit. Wilmot pitched 4 innings of 1 hit ball, striking out 7 and Cole struck out 6 in 2 innings. Caitlin Reed had 3 innings of relief pitching on Tuesday, striking out 6 in 3 innings of work.

The Generals move to 19-5-1 and are back in action on Tuesday when they host Adirondack CC for a Region III DH at 3 PM.
