Herkimer Softball Wins Region 3B Championship

Herkimer NY- The Herkimer Generals hosted the Hudson Valley CC Vikings on Wednesday (5/18) for the Region 3B Championship. The Generals broke game one open, with a 7 run 4^th inning to cruise to a 9-4 victory. In game two, the Generals scored 3 runs in the 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th innings to win 9-1 and move on to their 10^th straight NJCAA DIII World Series.

The Generals were led offensively by Sophomore Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, NY). Ponticello went 4-5 on the day with 4 runs scored and 3 RBI’s. Ponticello totaled 10 bases on the afternoon, hitting a double, triple and her team leading 7^th Home Run of the season. Maiya Reinhart (Batavia, NY) added 2 hits, 2 runs and her 6^th home run of the season to anchor the Generals offense.

Pitchers Madison Puppalo (Adams, MA) and Elora Wilmot (Cazenovia, NY) picked up the wins on the day. Puppalo surrendered 3 earned runs in 5 innings, striking out 4. Wilmot struck out 5, in 5 innings of work allowing only 1 earned run.

The Generals move to 32-7-1 and await the World Series Bracket. The Generals will host the Tournament at Carrier Park-Field of Dreams, in Syracuse NY.
