Generals Men's Soccer Players Named to All-American Teams

Herkimer College Generals Men’s Soccer Players were named to United Soccer Coaches All-American Team and as First Team NJCAA Division III Men’s Soccer All-Americans.

Ali Somow, of Utica; and Jack Bowden, of Aberdeen, Scotland; were named to the United Soccer Coaches Junior College All-America teams. Somow is Herkimer’s first three time All-American due to the extra COVID season. Somow, a sophomore and general studies major, was named to the NJCAA Division III Men’s Soccer National Championship All-Tournament team. He was ninth in the nation in goals and total points and sixth in the nation in game winning goals with four points.

Bowden, a freshman majoring in business administration, led a defense that only allowed four goals the entire season. Both players were also named to the first team All-Region III team. Both players helped lead the Generals to a national third place finish. Somow and Bowden will receive their awards along with other high school and college all-American honorees, January 14, 2023, at the United Soccer Coaches national ceremony and reception in Philadelphia.

“Both Ali and Jack are class acts both on and off the field,” Herkimer Generals Men’s Soccer Coach Pepe Aragon said. “They truly deserve this prestigious award.”

Somow was also selected as first team NJCAA Division III Men’s Soccer All-American. He shares that distinction with Cathal Carney of Springfield, Massachusetts.

Carney, a freshman and general studies major, led the Generals to a third place finish at the NJCAA Division III Men’s Soccer National Championship Tournament. He led the nation in wins, save percentage, and goals-against average.
