Herkimer College Announces Empire State Diversity Honor Scholarship Recipients
Herkimer College has named 17 student recipients of the 2023 Empire State Diversity Honor Scholarships.
This SUNY-sponsored program of direct aid seeks to attract and retain undergraduate students to SUNY campuses who have demonstrated high academic achievement and can demonstrate that they will contribute to the diversity of the student body.
The recipients from across New York State include:
Carolyn Alford, of Little Falls; Yamilka Cirino, of Brewertown; Christopher Conklin, of Syracuse; Cheyenne Garlock, of Herkimer; Brianna Graham, of Schenectady; Hawa Jangana, of Bronx; John Looby, of Watertown; Alexia Mendez, of Bronx; Yolanda Nunez, of New York City; Mary Kay Pedersen, of Massena; Joamny Pena, of Mount Vernon; Alexis Rogers, of Richfield Springs; Alyshia Ross, of Stillwater; Irving Santana, of Bronx; Reyann Steacy, of Ilion; Amber Swald, of Utica; and Katherine Wallace, of Utica.
“The Empire State Diversity Honor Scholarships are one of the many pathways to equity and access to higher education,” Herkimer College President Cathleen C. McColgin, Ph.D., said. “Congratulations to all of our recipients.”
“I’m so proud of all our students receiving this scholarship,” Director of Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee Chair Maureen Seaman said. “It was a privilege to read all the personal essays and learn about each student’s journey. College can be challenging, and these students have been able to achieve high academic standing while overcoming many obstacles.”
