Herkimer College will serve as the host site for Phoenix Overdrive’s 9th annual Extra Life National Game Day on Saturday, Nov. 4, and Sunday, Nov. 5. The event benefits Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, including the local Mohawk Valley Health System.
Extra Life is a 24-hour gaming marathon utilizing the power of games and gamers to unite in the cause of helping sick kids and changing kids’ health and futures. Phoenix Overdrive was established in 2014. To date, they’ve raised over $95,000 as a team for various Children’s Miracle Network hospitals nationwide. In 2021, the team ranked 48th out of 4084 teams. In 2022, they jumped to 35th place out of 3340 teams.
Host Herkimer College has been in step with the esports trend, creating the Generals esports athletic program in 2020. The College is one of approximately 81 institutions nationwide competing in the National Junior Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE).
The top-ranked community college also launched its Esports Management A.A.S. degree program this semester. A new campus esports center will also be unveiled with a ribbon cutting this fall.
Extra Life National Game Day is open to the public.
