The Herkimer Generals baseball team clinched the Region III title with a 9-6 win over Genesee Community College. It's the program's first Region III title since 2019.

Herkimer started off the double-elimination tournament strong, defeating No. 3 seed Erie 10-0 in a five-inning mercy on Thursday. The following day, the Generals bats went silent with just two hits, and they fell to Genesee Community College 4-0.

They played No. 1 seed SUNY Niagara in an elimination game winning with a stellar pitching performance by Tusbasa Tomii (Tokyo, Japan).

The next day, the Generals would have to beat Genesee Community College twice in order to become Region III champions. The Generals scored the first 11 runs of the game in the first game and never looked back. Jordan Goble (Oneonta, NY) threw a nine-inning complete game gem, allowing just three runs and striking out eight.

Herkimer grabbed the early lead in the championship game with RBI singles from Emilio Portes (Miami, FL) and David Bernard (Schenectady, NY). Genesee bounced back with six unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 6-3 lead. The Generals responded with a five-run eighth inning to take a 9-6 lead. Ryan Cook and Colin Skermont, both Whitesboro High School graduates, pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings in relief to end the game.

Bernard led the team with a .500 over five games at the Region III Tournament. Donovan Rhoden (Ballston Spa, NY) hit .375 with four runs and four RBIs and Ethan Glossa (Oak Park, IL) hit .318 with six runs scored. Bernard was named the Region III Tournament MVP while Portes, Goble, Rhoden and Tomii were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The team advances to the NJCAA World Series in Auburn, NY. They will play the No. 4 seed Camp Community College on Saturday, May 25 at 7:15 p.m.
