Kyle MacFarlane Named Fall 2024 SUNY Scholar Athlete of the Year

Herkimer College Men’s Soccer midfielder Kyle MacFarlane was named a 2024 Fall SUNY Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He is one of just five student-athletes from NJCAA institutions to receive the honor.
MacFarlane, a sophomore hailing from Glasgow, Scotland, maintained a 3.46 GPA while majoring in physical education.
MacFarlane was named to the 2024 All-Mountain Valley Conference First Team and All-Region First Team after leading his team to the Region III championship game, where he was named an NJCAA First-Team All-American. MacFarlane was also honored by the United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division III All-East Region Team and All-American Team.
“As a coach, there’s no greater pride than seeing your athletes excel both on the field and in the classroom,” said Herkimer College Men’s Soccer head coach Pepe Aragon. “Kyle embodies everything we strive for in our program—dedication, discipline, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Being named a SUNY Scholar-Athlete of the Year is a testament to his hard work and commitment to achieving greatness in all aspects of life. We couldn’t be prouder!”
The Fall SUNY Scholar-Athlete Awards recognized 20 student-athletes from SUNY colleges and universities sponsoring intercollegiate athletics at the four- and two-year levels, who were nominated and voted upon by representatives of their respective institutions. More than 14,000 student-athletes compete at SUNY institutions, representing 53 different colleges and universities at the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III/USCAA, and NJCAA levels and are eligible for the awards.
The NJCAA category features the 29 two-year community colleges spread out across the state of New York: Adirondack, Broome, Cayuga, Clinton, Columbia-Greene, Corning, Dutchess, Erie, FIT, Finger Lakes, Fulton-Montgomery, Genesee, Herkimer, Hudson Valley, Jamestown, Jefferson, Mohawk Valley, Monroe, Nassau, Niagara, North Country, Onondaga, Orange, Rockland, Schenectady, Suffolk, Sullivan, Tompkins, and Ulster.
