Lady Generals have multiple contributors in opener

UTICA, NY – The Lady Generals began their season in a tournament at Mohawk Valley Community College this past weekend. The team beat Genesee Community College (59-52) on Sunday, but lost to Jefferson Community College (84-70) on Saturday.

Herkimer (1-1) has a mix of upper and lower classmen, which has the team still ironing out roles early in the season. In the loss to Jefferson, Samantha Randio (Ravena, NY) had 18 points and 17 rebounds, Kaylyn Dickerson (Douglasville, GA) had 15 points and seventeen rebounds, Korey Bunal (Rome, NY) had 12 points and seven rebounds and Emily Rexford (Canton, NY) had 11 points, six assists and five steals.

Contributors changed against Cannoneers on Sunday, which helped seeing Herkimer attain an eight-point lead at half, different from Saturday's game where the team found themselves down by 11 at intermission. Leading the way was sophomore guard Shi Williams (Syracuse, NY). Williams tallied eight points, eight rebounds, four assists and five steals. With Williams playing well, it allowed for Rexford to score 11, Raven Griffin (Syracuse, NY) to score seven and assist three and Stacy Loucks (Johnstown, NY) to score nine.

The team playing on back-to-back days allowed for five consecutive days with no games. That changes on Saturday (11/9) when the Lady Generals host Jefferson Community College at 3 p.m. Herkimer will look to play the Cannoneers better this time around, getting solid contributions from everyone.
