HERKIMER, NY – Herkimer Generals women’s soccer player Teigha Ward was named Green & Gold Female Athlete of the Month for September. Ward – an Education: Physical Education major at Herkimer College – helped her team to an undefeated record in every game she played in (6-0).

Ward opened up the season hot, netting 11 goals and four assists in her first two games in August. That momentum carried into September where the forward tallied eight goals and six assists. It began with a hat trick against both Onondaga and Jamestown in the team’s first two games of September. The Lazers saw Ward net three goals, while the Jayhawks allowed three assists. Ward accumulated five goals and two assists before an injury robbed the sophomore of Herkimer’s final two September games. Despite that, Ward is still ranked third nationally in goals (19) and points (48) and seventh in assists with 10.

“Teigha’s work ethic and heart drive her every day,” said Head Women’s Soccer Coach Ryan Brooks-Newton. “It has helped her become of the best athletes in the nation, adding leadership qualities not many have at this level. Her on-field talent isn’t her only strength, as she does her part in the classroom as well.”
