Third straight opponent defeated 4-0, this time at home

(Teigha Ward scored her first goal of the game in the 23rd on an assist from Kendra Henry).

(Ward scored her second goal in the 41st on an assist from Grace Johnson, making it 3-0).

HERKIMER, NY – With another three goal half, this time in the first 45 minutes of play, the #2 Herkimer Generals women’s soccer team defeated Jefferson Community College at home on Wednesday (10/14) 4-0.

Herkimer (13-1-0) wasted little time in capturing the 1-0 advantage at Wehrum Stadium after Michaela Bianca (Guildeland, NY) netted her third goal in as many games in the third minute. Bianca took a pass from teammate Teigha Ward (Ilion, NY) at midfield, dribbled a bit to get free, then put away the shot past goalie Katie Aldrich.

20 minutes later Ward got on the board, making it 2-0 on a connection with Kendra Henry (Owego, NY). Henry passed the ball perfectly in some traffic to Ward inside the 18, using her right foot to score on the left side of the net for her third consecutive game with at least a goal and one assist.

Ward capped off her day with a second goal in the 41st minute, this time on a pass over the top from Grace Johnson (Tully, NY) to make it 3-0. It was Ward’s 23 goal of the season, the same exact amount the sophomore had as a freshman in 18 games (2014). To date, Ward has appeared in 12 games in 2015.

Netting the final goal in the second half was sophomore Kalli Warmingham (Newport, NY). The midfielder broke a five game scoreless streak in the 59th after Jefferson was unable to clear the ball deep in their territory. Warmingham took advantage of the mistake and got her second goal of the season with ease.

Outshooting the Cannoneers 14-to-4 in 90 minutes allowed goalie Sydney Stanley (Schoharie, NY) to tally her 13th shutout of the season, saving four shots in the process. The sophomore has not allowed a goal in any of the Generals 13 wins this season, helping improve their current win streak to six games.

Herkimer will look to make it seven games in a row this Saturday (10/17) when the team hosts #8 Genesee Community College at Wehrum Stadium. It will be the fourth ranked opponent Herkimer has faced this season, 3-0 thus far against the Top 10 teams in the nation. Game time between the Generals and Cougars on Saturday is slated for 1 p.m.
