Men's JV Basketball goes 2-0 over the weekend, improve to 9-1 on the season

Paul Smiths, NY and Herkimer, NY - The Herkimer Men's JV Basketball team were clicking on all cylinders on offense over the weekend as they took a pair of games to improve to 9-1 on the year. On Saturday at Paul Smith's, the Generals recovered from blowing a 20 point lead to defeat the Bobcats in overtime by a score of 87-82. On Sunday, the Generals returned home and scored 62 first half points in blowing out the Elmira JV by a score of 104-65.

Tavon Bates (Liverpool, NY) led the way on Saturday for Herkimer, scoring 32 points to lead 5 Generals in double figures. Amir Ridge (Kingston, NY) put up 16 points while Jerome Henderson (Jamaica, Queens) added 14 which included 3 3-pointers. Josh Wilcox (Herkimer, NY) and Ryo Hikichi (Kanagawa, Japan) each pitched in with 10 points apiece.

The Generals stepped it up a notch on Sunday, hitting 16 3 point field goals as a team to earn a season high in points scored. Bates was once again the leading scorer, putting up 29 points in the winning effort. Mecca McCullough (Rochester, NY) put up 20 points while Henderson followed up his Saturday performance with 16 more points. Center Josh Jones (Bridgeport, CT) pitched in with 11 points and Wilcox added 10 points for the second straight game.

Herkimer will now enjoy a week off before traveling to West Point, NY to take the Army Prep team on Sunday, Feb 9th at 2:00 PM.
