Namir Davis named Green and Gold Female Athlete of the Month

HERKIMER, NY—Herkimer College has announced its Green and Gold Athletes for the month of January. They are men’s basketball player Shykell Brown (Rochester, NY) and women’s basketball player Namir Davis (Utica, NY).

Brown, a freshman guard, leads Herkimer in scoring at 16.5 points per game with a team-leading 61 three pointers made. Brown also is among the regional leaders in free throw percentage at 85.7percent.

“Shykell is a tri-captain who has been instrumental in our success so far this year,” said Coach Matt Lee. “We look forward to the challenge ahead, and Shykell will play a big role in helping us meet that challenge.”

Davis, a sophomore, averages 8.5 points and just under two steals per game — she is a big reason why the Generals are 16-4 and currently ranked No. 9 in the nation. Davis’ biggest impact is felt on the defensive end and from an emotional standpoint.

“Namir is energy all game, every game,” said Head Coach Gabe Coffey. “She is the best on-ball defender in Region III and relentless on the defensive end. She also came up very big for us offensively against Mohawk Valley to help seal that win.”
