Herkimer College Appoints Assistant Directors to the Offices of Human Resources and Marketing and Communications

Two individuals have been appointed to the position of assistant director of their respective offices, at Herkimer College.

Mary Brewer, of Utica, joined the College as assistant director of human resources, effective July 7, 2024. Brewer is a skilled professional with experience in management, including operations and team leadership. She gained experience through her career in roles such as client services coordinator in estate planning, and as business office manager for a senior living organization. Her education includes an associate degree in Business Administration from Mohawk Valley Community College and a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Bellevue University. Brewer is active in the community participating in her church choir, serving on her daughter’s dance studio fundraising committee, and enjoying sports.

Laura Simonelli, of Mohawk, is an alumnus returning to the College as assistant director of marketing and communications, effective August 1, 2024. She brings experience in communications and marketing across diverse industries and a creative edge from a life in the arts. Simonelli’s background includes serving as content strategist for a college enrollment marketing firm, junior underwriter for a property insurance carrier, and marketing consultant for small businesses and independent artists. Her skills include social media management, content development, public relations and copywriting. Simonelli holds an associate degree in Fine Arts from Herkimer College and a bachelor’s degree in Communications, with a public relations and advertising focus and art minor, from The College of Saint Rose. She enjoys creative writing, painting, and hiking.
