HERKIMER, NY – With four goals in the second half of Saturday’s game against Bunker Hill Community College, the Herkimer Generals men’s soccer team won their season opener at Wehrum Stadium, securing the 4-0 victory over the Bulldogs.

Herkimer (1-0, 0-0) controlled the entire game, getting multiple shots on goal throughout the contest. It took 48 minutes for the first goal to occur, but after that three more goals came within the next 30 minutes of play.

Scoring the first goal was sophomore Ben Polk (Banbury, UK). The forward found himself behind the defense numerous times Saturday, netting his lone goal on an assist from Connor Shearer (Oneonta, NY).

Moulid’s came on the left wing and Windster’s came on the right, seeing both players drill shots in the bottom of the net.

The scoring ended for Herkimer in the 80th minutes when a Jeff Castaneda (Franklin Square, NY) shot caromed off a Bulldog defender right to Mitsuru Takayashiki (Morioka, Japan), scoring from in the box easily to the left side of the net.

In the net for the Generals was freshman Alberto Sanchez (Yonkers, NY). Sanchez saved three shots on the day, earning his first career shutout.
