Generals good down the stretch, defeated Red Barons at home

HERKIMER, NY – With contributions late from Erica Tracy, I’Asia O’Garro, Shahadah Williams and Raven Griffin Saturday (11/22) afternoon in the varsity gym, the Herkimer Generals women’s basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak, defeating the Corning Red Barons 71-69.

Herkimer (2-3, 1-2 ) saw Corning tie the game twice in the last four minutes of regulation after building a six points lead at half (42-36). Tracy (Cobleskill, NY) captured the first lead on an assist from Emily Rexford (Canton, NY), then Williams (Syracuse, NY) never let the Generals trail the rest of the way after a steal and layup made it 68-66 with 1:21 left. Williams led the team with 18 points, followed by O’Garro (Copiague, NY) with 16 and Rexford and 12.

Combined, both Williams and O’Garro had 22 points in the second half, with Williams scoring 10 and O’Garro scoring 12.

Other contributors in the win for Herkimer were Griffin (Syracuse, NY), Chelsea Jory (Herkimer, NY), Kristy Wallace (Frankfort, NY) and Eriel (Detroit, MI). Griffin had four points, Jory had two, Wallace had two and Jenkins had one.

The Generals play their first back-to-back in the varsity gym this weekend, hosting Finger Lakes tomorrow (11/23) at 12 p.m. The Lakers are four games under .500, without a win on the road thus far. Herkimer is undefeated after the win today at home, playing their first four games of the season on the road.
