Eligibility for Emeritus

POLICY STATEMENT:  It is the policy of the Board of Trustees that full-time professional academic and administrative staff shall be eligible for emeritus status upon retirement from Herkimer County Community College.  The following ranks shall be considered a minimum for eligibility:  Associate Professor or Director.   In addition, the employee must have worked a minimum of 15 years of full-time professional service and retire from a full-time professional position.

Upon the recommendation of the President, the Board of Trustees shall review the qualifications of eligible retirees and either grant or deny emeritus status.

BACKGROUND:  While there was no previous Board Policy in regards to Eligibility for Emeritus status, the procedure described above is the current practice.
