Spotlight on the Class of '22, Besim Ferhatovic
Besim Ferhatovic is a first-generation college student who emigrated to the United States from Bosnia and Herzegovina in August of 1999. While he explains that his journey to complete school was difficult – managing online classes and a full-time job – he never gave up on his dreams. Besim works at Price Chopper and his goal is to one day be manager.
His advice to other non-traditional students?
“I never gave up after four years. Stick to it. Don’t give up on your dreams, pursue them,” he said.
Ferhatovic also credits his incredible support system of family and Herkimer College faculty and staff members.
“I just want to thank my school, all my tutors, and my coach Keith at the Academic Center. I also want to thank my adviser Josh Parkinson, and mostly, I want to thank my beautiful wife for always supporting me and never giving up on me.”
In one or two words, what does Herkimer College mean for Ferhatovic? Beaming, he says, “family and best friends.”
Congratulations, Besim, and all our ’22 graduates!
