Women's Track & Field earns 2nd and Honored with Individual Accolades
Little Falls, NY-- Herkimer College hosted the 2017 Region III track & field championship meet this weekend. The Generals competed well as the women took home the runner-up plaque and men took third place.
Herkimer women Chyanna Bernier (Ilion, NY) and Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY) were honored as Track Female Athlete of the Meet, and Field Female Athlete of the Meet. Bernier earned first place in the 1500m, 5000m, 10000m, and 3000 steeplechase.
Blumenstock earned first in the pole vault tying with fellow Herminer General Elysia LaPlante (Herkimer, NY), first in the triple jump, javelin and long jump heptathalon. Blumenstock also took second in the 100m hurdles, 200m dash, and high jump.
Gabrielle Bridgewater (Fort Plain, NY) took second in the 400m hurdles, 3000 steeplechase, and first in the women's heptathalon.
Individually for the men, impressive results were produced by Malik Briggs (Herkimer, NY) on the men's side winning the high jump at 1.88m.
Jason Lewis (Mt. Vernon, NY) earned third in the discus throw hurling it it 25.68m.
Brandon Tyson (Waterville, NY) earned the third place spot in the shot put (9.79m) and the hammer throw throwing it 27.64m.
Michael Marucci (Buffalo, NY) placed second in the 200 just one stride behind first.
