Tribune Invite yields same result for swimming & diving
ROCHESTER, NY – Competing at Monroe Community College for the second consecutive meet, the Herkimer Generals swimming & diving program conceded the same results, the men finished fourth (199 points) and the women finished second (208 points) at the aquatic center on Saturday (1/16).
Helping the men to their second fourth place finish of the season was numerous Top 5 finishes from relays and individual events. Capturing the only first place spots was Nicholas Herrlett (Gloversville, NY) in one-meter and three-meter diving. The freshman has yet to be defeated this season, totaling 198.25 points in one meter and 162.15 points in three meter.
Behind Herrlett with one second place finish was Cameron Roten (Johnstown, NY). The freshman did it in the 50 yd. Freestyle, posting a 24.83. Another freshman, Nicholas Lanckton (Holland Patent, NY) was one spot behind Roten, capturing third in the 1000 yd. Freestyle. Lanckton swam a 12:42.80.
Fourth place finishes came from five events. Two from relays and three from individual events. Roten, Lanckton, Dean Schrider (Holland Patent, NY) and Jacob Cardinal (Newport, NY) paired to post a 4:28.32 in the 400 yd. Medley Relay and 4:02.24 in the 400 yd. Freestyle Relay. Then Schrider posted a 2:09.93 in the 200 yd. Freestyle and 2:47.34 in the 200 yd. Breaststroke, and Lanckton posted a 6:03.95 in the 500 yd. Freestyle.
The lone fifth place spot for the men was obtained by Schrider in the 200 yd. Butterfly. The sophomore swam a 2:33.05.
As for the women, they have four second place finishes throughout five meets as a team. Helping the squad to another solid performance was numerous Top 3 finishes.
Six second place finishes came from the 100 yd. Individual Medley, 400 yd. Individual Medley, 200 yd. Butterfly, 200 yd. Backstroke, 200 yd. Breaststroke and 400 yd. Freestyle Relay. Combining in the relay was Jordan Mercer (Oneida, NY), Hannah Watts (Norwich, NY), Corinne Richer (Clinton, NY) and Jensen VanNostrand (Macedon, NY). Their second place finish in the 400 yd. Freestyle came from a 4:49.82.
Individually, VanNostrand, Richer and Mercer captured the rest of the second place spots. VanNostrand did it in the 100 yd. Individual Medley (1:13.86) and 200 yd. Backstroke (2:34.35), Richer did it in the 400 yd. Individual Medley (5:43.06) and 200 yd. Butterfly (2:52.53) and Mercer did it in the 200 yd. Breaststroke (3:07.50).
The only third place finish came from VanNostrand in the 200 yd. Freestyle. The freshman posted a 2:20.52.
Herkimer’s next meet is against Jamestown Community College on Saturday (1/23). The Generals will travel to Hawk country with competition slated to begin at 1 p.m.
