Softball earns 3rd place finish at National Tournament

Syracuse, NY - The Herkimer Generals Softball team wrapped up their season in dramatic fashion by winning 3 games and finishing in 3rd place at the 2021 NJCAA Division III National Tournament, held at Carrier Park in Syracuse, NY this past weekend. The Generals, who were seeding third in the tournament, wrap up their season with a record of 25-6.

After losing their opener to #6 College of Dupage on Thursday, the Generals came back with a 5 run rally later that day to defeat Suffolk 7-6 to keep their Championship hopes alive in the double elimination tournament. Weather limited the Generals to only one game on Friday, but again they won in dramatic fashion, scoring 4 runs in the top of the seventh and then hanging on to eliminate # 4 North Dakota SCS by a score of 11-10 to advance to the next round.

Saturday saw the Generals take on #5 Rowan-Gloucester and come away with a 5-3 win to advance to the National Semifinals against Region III rival and #2 seeded Corning CC. The dramatic run ended for Herkimer as the Spartans escaped with a 4-3 win to eliminate Herkimer and advance to the National Championship round vs #1 Rock Valley. The Golden Eagles won their seventh National title in a row, beating Corning 13-2 in the title game.

Alexis Garrison (Clifton Park, NY), Alexis Van Patten (Niskayuna, NY) and Kourtney Ketcham (Otisville, NY) were named to the All-Tournament team for Herkimer. Congratulations to Head Coach PJ Anadio and his squad, as they finished in the top 3 at the National Tournament for the 8th straight season.
